The 7th Talks on the Hill, entitled "Beyond Black and White: Confronting Modern Realities of Racism and Xenophobia in Asia and Europe," was co-organized by the Asia Europe Foundation (ASEF) and Casa Asia from November 13-15, 2005 in Barcelona, Spain.  The Talks on the Hill meeting was held within the framework of ASEF’s Culture and Civilizations Dialogue Program which was recently established by ASEF-Intellectual Exchange Department with the realization that many cultural and civilization issues need to be addressed to promote understanding between the two regions of Asia and Europe, and also to facilitate leaders of civil society meeting, interacting and engaging with one another and with audiences in the opposite regions.
Following up with MFA’s participation to the World Conference Against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance (WCAR) in 2001, Asia Europe People’s Forum (AEPF5) in 2004, and the WCAR Regional Seminar in 2005, the ASEF 7th Talks on the Hill was identified by MFA as an important project to engage in with the objective of highlighting the ‘Modern Realities of Racism and Xenophobia in Asia’ from the migrant workers perspective.

The report of the 7th Talk on the Hill feeds into the Asia Europe Meeting (ASEM) at the policy making level and serves as a working document to inform process and mechanisms that facilitate a greater cooperation, collaboration and solidarity among people of Asia and Europe.

The program works not only towards migrants' personal empowerment and savings for alternative investment in social enterprises in their home communities, but also to involve those communities, expand networks and raise awareness, thus the program can build community resilience against many of the root causes of and dangers relating to migration, including HIV/AIDS."
