Labour recruitment to the UAE

MFA released a report in January 2011 entitled “Labour recruitment to the UAE: Gaps between policy practice in Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and the Philippines. Emerging from the analysis of the case studies in the report are two key concerns: the need to better regulate the networks of sub-agents that are operating in each of these sending countries, and the need to oversee the operations of recruitment agencies on the receiving side.  Sending state governments have employed various methods in their attempts to protect their citizens and to provide support for migrants in distress, despite limited resources and the vast (and growing) number of people in need of such services.  However, these programs and policies treat the symptoms, rather than the roots of the problem.
