Statement: Upholding the Rights and Dignity of Domestic Workers: an ILO Convention after 63 years

On June 9th, MFA representatives addressed the media to share reflections on the text of the Domestic Workers Convention, recently adopted by the Committee on Domestic Workers at the ILO.  Speakers included: Sr. Lissy Joseph from the National Domestic Workers Movement, India; Ellene Sana, Center for Migrant Advocacy, Philippines; and Hessen El Sayah, Caritas Lebanon.  They elaborated on the realities faced by domestic workers on a daily basis within Asia and worldwide.  While the Convention marks a significant milestone for domestic workers, there is much work to be done in order to see the provisions enshrined in the Convention realized through domestic law, and in practice in the homes of those who employ domestic workers.
